The Indian Premier League (IPL) founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008. It’s a platform for young Indian players to showcase talent, having undergone changes since 2007.

• In 2008, the first season of the IPL featured 8 teams, with the inaugural match held on April 18, 2008.
• In 2010, The league added two new teams, increasing the total number of teams to 10.
• In 2011, two teams were suspended due to corruption charges, reducing the number of teams to 8.
• In 2012, the league expanded to 9 teams with the addition of the Pune Warriors India.
• In 2015,The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings for two years due to corruption charges, which reduced the number of teams to 8
• In 2018, the league expanded to 10 teams with the return of the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals, and the addition of the Rising Pune Supergiants and the Gujarat Lions.
• In 2020, due to COVID-19 the tournament was held in UAE and the format was changed to a bio-secure bubble.

Overall, the IPL has grown in popularity and now considered as one of the most successful and lucrative cricket leagues in the world.

How Did IPL Evolve?
