Overview of Match 3 in IPL 2023

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a cricket tournament that brings together some of the best cricket players from around the world. One of the most exciting matches in TATA IPL 2023 is the one between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Delhi Capitals. In this article, we will take a look at an overview of the third match Lucknow Super Giants VS Delhi Capitals.

The Lucknow Super Giants are a relatively new team in the IPL, having been formed in 2021. However, they have quickly established themselves as one of the top teams in the league. They finished in the top four in their first season and narrowly missed out on a place in the final. The Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, are one of the oldest and most established teams in the IPL. They’ve been a part of the league since it began in 2008.

Overview of the Match:

In Match 3 of TATA IPL 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Lucknow Super Giants emerged victorious over Delhi Capitals by a margin of 50 runs.

LSG’s Kyle Mayers shone with the bat during his IPL debut, smashing a brilliant 73 off just 38 balls. Meanwhile, Mark Wood’s excellent bowling performance took 5/14, further securing LSG’s win their first match in TATA IPL 2023.

Delhi Capitals, chasing a target of 194, began their innings with a strong start. Thanks to David Warner and Prithvi Shaw, the pair hit powerful shots accumulating 40 runs in the first four overs.

After KL Rahul brought in Mark Wood to bowl, he immediately made an impact by getting rid of Shaw with an exceptional delivery. Wood then continued his impressive form by dismissing Mitchell Marsh with a quick delivery. This helped LSG get back into the game in their first match in  TATA IPL 2023. At the end of the Powerplay, DC had reached 47/2.

Wood’s pace proved to be too much for Sarfaraz Khan, who attempted an upper cut and was caught at fine leg, giving Wood his third wicket. DC’s scoring rate slowed significantly until Rossouw took charge, hitting a couple of fours and a six off Bishnoi in the 10th over to take DC to 75/3 at the halfway point.

However, Bishnoi made a comeback by dismissing Rossouw in his next over and then sent Rovman Powell back to the pavilion, causing a setback for DC.

Warner, who was holding down one end, hit his fifty off 45 balls after scoring 15 runs off Unadkat’s over. However, at that point, the required run rate had increased to over 16, putting more pressure on the batting team. As Avesh took out Aman Khan and Warner in the same over, the pressure mounted, and more wickets fell. With 81 runs still needed in just four overs, Delhi Capitals needed a miracle, but Wood returned to dismiss Axar Patel and Chetak Sakariya, completing his five-wicket haul and securing LSG’s victory by 50 runs in the first TATA IPL 2023 game.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals’ captain David Warner chose to field after winning the toss. Their substitutes were Aman Khan, Pravin Dubey, Manish Pandey, Lalit Yadav, and Abhishek Porel. While LSG’s substitutes were Yash Thakur, K Gowtham, Daniel Sams, Prerak Mankad, and Amit Mishra.

The opening bowlers for the DC Pacers, Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar, began strongly by moving the ball and sticking to their lines. This allowed only one boundary in the first three overs. The pressure was mounting, and Rahul attempted to alleviate it by hitting a six off Chetan Sakariya, but Sakariya bounced back by dismissing him on the next delivery, caught at deep square leg. Although DC had an opportunity to take two wickets within the powerplay, Khaleel Ahmed dropped Mayers at short third man while he was on 14. The visiting side limited LSG to 30/1 in the Powerplay.

Mayers eventually picked up the pace by smashing two sixes off Mukesh Kumar. Mayers then targeted Axar Patel to hit a four and a six.  This was a boost to the innings. He hit Kuldeep Yadav for a six over deep square leg, reaching his fifty on IPL debut in only 28 balls.

Mayers continued to hit sixes, scoring two more off Axar and one off Kuldeep. But Kuldeep struck back by having Hooda caught in the deep. Axar then dismissed Mayers for 73(38) with an outstanding delivery that spun a long way.

Khaleel returned to the attack and took the crucial wicket of Stoinis, who was caught behind for 12(10). This caused a setback for LSG. Nicholas Pooran went on the attack by hitting a four and a six in the same over to ease the pressure.

Pooran (36 off 21) and Krunal Pandya counter-attacked, putting together a 48-run partnership off just 26 balls. Ayush Badoni then finished the innings with a flourish. Scoring a quick 18 runs off 7 balls, including two sixes in the final over. LSG’s Impact Player, K Gowtham, came in and finished the innings with a six, taking the total to 193/6.

In the 20th over of the first innings, DC brought on Aman Khan as their Impact Player, replacing Khaleel Ahmed.

The match between LSG and DC was a thrilling encounter between two teams. Both teams have had an outstanding start to the season. They will be looking to continue their winning ways in the rest of the tournament in TATA IPL 2023.
